Why Cody Rhodes Would Benefit From Losing WWE Championship

Cody Rhodes WWE SmackDown promo

Cody Rhodes is placing the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line against Drew McIntyre at Saturday Night’s Main Event, and maybe The Scottish Warrior should walk about as the new champion.

McIntyre has been placed as a superstar who has everything it takes to be the world champion, but isn’t able to secure it. Furthermore, fans have been booing The Scottish Warrior long enough for him to unleash the titan version of himself in the ring.

Now, The American Nightmare has been advertised for WrestleMania 42 already, and it is believed that he will enter the event as the Undisputed WWE Champion.

Cody Rhodes can benefit by losing to Drew McIntyre and still headline WrestleMania 42

On Notsam Wrestling, Sam Roberts explored the situation where The American Nightmare is dethroned by Drew McIntyre at Saturday Night’s Main Event. He explains that by having Rhodes lose, he can actually be elevated to a new level of popularity.

Furthermore, he claimed that championship runs should be short-lived and not like Roman Reigns’, which can be considered an outlier. He even pointed out that if McIntyre wins the championship, other babyfaces can get the chance to pursue the championship before Rhodes gets it back.

You don’t just have the other person win just to have them win. But you have a story planned out. You have a story that, at the end of the day, is going to make Cody an even stronger champion. That’s gonna remind Cody why, gonna remind people why they’re cheering for Cody. And I think you can do that. And I think Drew is the guy that you can do it against because they’re going to boo Drew McIntyre.

And then you can get some more people in the mix. You can have Damian Priest get a shot at Drew McIntyre’s title. You know what I mean? You can have some baby faces in there getting opportunities at Drew McIntyre’s title, and then in the end, Cody gets his belt back, and Cody can still headline WrestleMania.

You know what? If Cody’s first reign with the WWE Championship was a year long, but now every time that he gets it, it slips out of his fingers after a couple months. That’s interesting to me. You know what I mean? That he’s not that good. That’s what’s lost in Cody Rhodes. Maybe his ability to hold on to the title that he used to have. Not only winning it back, but holding it again. Maybe he gets it back at WrestleMania, lose it again. There’s no reason that every title reign should be super long.

He finally pointed out that John Cena and Ric Flair have had short championship runs over their careers which led them to becoming the 17 and 16-time world champions.
