Why 5-Time World Champion Isn’t Interested In WWE Legends Contract
A former five-time world champion has revealed why they have no interest in signing a WWE Legends deal.
The great and good of wrestling have been given WWE Legends contracts over the years, allowing the company to produce merchandise for them and also stopping them from appearing anywhere the company doesn’t want them to.
This came into play when Kevin Nash was stopped from being part of Sting’s final match, which took place at AEW Revolution in March 2024.
While the contracts keep stars of yesteryear as part of the WWE family while providing a small income, it seems that for everyone, they’re not all that they’re cracked up to be.
The Sandman Rules Out Signing WWE Deal
Speaking on the Major Wrestling Figure podcast, five-time ECW World Champion The Sandman explained why he has no interest in signing a WWE Legends deal:
No, I don’t. No, they asked. I was like, no legends deal. Well, because nobody ever said a good thing about a legends deal. I never heard one person say a good thing about them signing a legends deal.
The Sandman was part of ECW before the ‘E’ stood for Extreme in the company name. The beer-drinking, Singapore-cane-wielding maniac went on to win the ECW World Title five times before he made the switch to WCW for a spell as Hardcore Hak.
The Sandman was back in ECW before the company folded in 2001. When WWE revived the brand in 2005, he headlined the first One Night Stand show, teaming with Tommy Dreamer to battle the Dudley Boyz. The Sandman had the moment of the night as he entered Hammerstein Ballroom to the strains of Metallica’s Enter Sandman, with the crowd singing every word.
He joined WWE when ECW became a third brand, picking up a win at WrestleMania 23 as part of the ECW Originals team with Dreamer, Rob Van Dam, and Sabu. He briefly became part of the Raw roster before his WWE career ended in 2007.
