Vince McMahon’s Real Feelings About WWE’s Current Direction
Some insight has been given into how Vince McMahon really feels about the major changes WWE has made without him in charge.
Vince McMahon led WWE for four decades before he retired for the first time in July 2022. That was when the first rumblings of sexual abuse and payoffs to former employees came to light. However, by January 2023, McMahon had leveraged his position as the company’s biggest shareholder to force his way back into power. Stephanie McMahon immediately quit the company on her father’s return.
Vince McMahon was front and centre when Endeavor completed its takeover of WWE, merging the company with UFC under the TKO umbrella. McMahon was named Executive Chairman of TKO, but that role proved to be short-lived.
In early 2024, a sexual abuse and trafficking lawsuit was filed against Vince McMahon by Janel Grant. After Slim Jim threatened to pull its sponsorship of that year’s Royal Rumble, McMahon was forced to resign from the TKO board, ending his official association with WWE.
Since then, under Triple H and Nick Khan’s leadership, WWE has seen some radical changes from McMahon’s day, with things such as sponsors’ logos appearing on the ring canvas.
Vince McMahon Hates WWE Changes?
On a recent Fightful Select Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp gave some insight into how McMahon feels about WWE’s current direction and some of the changes Endeavor has made. Sapp suspects McMahon hates how things have gone and noted that he’s been told McMahon does keep up with the current product.
It was noted that if Vince McMahon had wanted to make any of these changes, such as logos on the canvas, he would have made them years ago. Interestingly, Sapp also pointed out that McMahon didn’t prioritise money as much as TKO does, as McMahon was more interested in satisfying himself, even if it sometimes meant hurting the bottom line.
