Vince McMahon Paid Fine To Save John Cena Match

Vince McMahon made sure John Cena fans got their money’s worth.

With John Cena’s retirement just around the corner, WWE Superstars past and present have been sharing their memories of working with the 17-time World Champion. And for Nic Nemeth, known as Dolph Ziggler in WWE, that was a match that wasn’t even televised.

During an appearance on KVIA ABC-7, Nemeth looked back on his time working with Cena, describing one clash as one of his favorite ever matches. The match took place at Madison Square Garden on December 27, 2012, as part of WWE’s traditional holiday event.

“One of my absolute favorite matches I’ve ever had was with him was at Madison Square Garden in a steel cage, not televised.”

‘The Garden’ has a famously strict curfew policy, which starts at half a million dollars. Something Nemeth and Cena were keenly aware of when they realised they’d been left with just eight minutes for their main event.

Despite the financial penalty, McMahon told the pair to give the crowd their money’s worth.

“Here’s the best part. There is a curfew with MSG and if you don’t hit that curfew, the building becomes a half of a million dollars more. We’re down to the main event with the steel cage and there’s eight minutes until — after this, it’s a half of a million dollars on Vince’s tab. I’m like, ‘What are we doing, we can’t shortchange these guys?’

He went, ‘Absolutely not, we’re going.’ Talked to the boss, boss goes, ‘Give them their moneys worth.’ We went out there for 30 minutes.”

Cena is set to appear at Madison Square Garden for the final time as an active performer on the November 17 episode of Raw.

WWE Legend Taught John Cena Important Lesson

In a recent interivew,Arn Anderson shared his own memories of working with John Cena earlier in the star’s career.

Following Cena’s arrival on the main roster in 2002, Anderson was charged with producing his matches and generally helping him become the megastar that the company felt he could be. However, on one night, Cena’s cockiness got the better of him.

During a match with Kurt Angle, Cena headed into the crowd to have some fun with a fan. Unfortunately for him, this left Angle at a loose end, just standing in the ring. And according to Anderson, when Cena returned from the crowd, Angle made sure he knew he wasn’t impressed.
