Vince McMahon “On Headsets” At WrestleMania 39
The subject of Vince McMahon retaking creative control of WWE since he forced his way back on the company’s Board in January 2023 has been the cause of much conversation and concern.
McMahon was forced into retirement in July 2022 following an investigation into him surrounding sexual misconduct allegations and hush money payments made to former WWE employees. Indeed, McMahon recently paid out millions of dollars to former WWE referee Rita Chatterton who accused him of raping her in 1986.
Despite the scandal surrounding him, Vince McMahon used his position as WWE majority shareholder to make his play back onto the Board of Directors before he was elected Executive Chairman on the 9th of January 2023.
WWE has maintained that McMahon is concerned with media rights deals and a possible sale of the company but there is a growing belief that he is biding his time and will again become more involved in creative matters that have been run by Triple H since his original retirement. Indeed, WWE CEO Nick Khan watered down previous comments he made about the reach of McMahon, now saying that he is “not that involved” in creative matters in the company.
Vince McMahon was backstage at a recent Raw in Boston and while he spent the night in the Gorilla position, reports suggested that he was not on headsets and offering no feedback or comments to talents, instead leaving that to the recognised team led by Triple H. However, the same is not being said about his role at WrestleMania 39.
A new report from PWInsider Elite noted that Vince McMahon had his own office in SoFi Stadium that was immediately next to the Gorilla position. The report states that McMahon was supervising the show and was on production headsets, at least early in the show, giving feedback and asking questions. It was noted that he was much more involved than he had been when he visited Raw.
