Why Vince McMahon “Absolutely Hated” 26-Time WWE Champion
As the WWE boss, Vince McMahon liked some wrestlers and hated a few.
Unfortunately for Raven, he featured in the latter column.
Before becoming an ECW legend, he managed a few wrestlers as Johnny Polo in WWE (then WWF) and wrestled occasionally.
He also featured as a color commentator and contributed to Monday Night Raw as its associate producer. Raven would depart the company in October 1994.
Later, he would work in various promotions, including a return to the WWE.
Stevie Richards, who had a similar journey to Raven’s, recently spoke about Raven proposing a “Seven Deadly Sins” angle to Vince McMahon.
During his recent podcast on The Stevie Richards Show, he explained why that generated heat between the two.
So, that there, the idea was solid, and you’re giving yourself seven angles over the course of how many years. And obviously, you wanna build up, maybe, to a main event spot.
The problem was, and I know this for a fact, he kept pitching it to Vince and he was catching Vince at the wrong time, which is a crapshoot. He just kept catching Vince at the wrong time. And that made Vince absolutely hate Raven. [0:54 onwards]
Vince McMahon Didn’t Like Raven’s Friendship With His Son, Shane
Raven has previously discussed that his friendship with Shane brought him heat from Vince McMahon.
Yeah that’s true. Me and Shane used to be really tight but we drifted apart. He’d go out with me every night. Big heat with Linda and Vince. The boys thought I was kissing ass for my career but it actually killed my career, giving me heat. [H/T Wrestling Inc]
Due to his dislike for the character of Johnny Polo and the lack of creative freedom, he left WWE to join ECW, where he became Raven, a heel who employed psychological tactics against his rivals.
