There might be some “twists and turns” on the Road to WrestleMania 39 with regard to the WWE Women’s Tag Team Title situation.

The WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles changed hands on the February 27th edition of Monday Night Raw when Lita & Becky Lynch beat Damage CTRL’s IYO SKY & Dakota Kai. Bayley tried to interfere on behalf of SKY and Kai, but Trish Stratus made her return (which has been rumored for several weeks) to nullify that. Since Trish took out Bayley outside the ring, Lita was able to get the win for her team.

After the match, Lita and Becky celebrated with the Women’s Tag Team Titles as Lita won her first championship in WWE in 17 years going back to 2006 when she retired. Trish and Lita are best friends who like to call themselves “Team Bestie” as well.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote about how the original plan was for Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler to challenge the Damage CTRL team of IYO SKY & Dakota Kai.

“The original match for Mania was Sky & Kai defending against Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler, with most expecting a title change since Rousey wants to have a run with the belts teaming with the person who got her heavily into wrestling when they were roommates in their MMA days coming off then becoming friends when filming The Ultimate Fighter reality show.”

As he continued, Meltzer wrote about how there will be “twists and turns” in the storyline before WrestleMania 39, which could lead to two matches out of this storyline.

“The only thing we know is that the women’s tag title situation with the six women involved, as well as Bayley and Trish Stratus, has several twists and turns yet to come before the matches are finalized. Whether that means another title change back, or a Stratus heel turn leading to that, or something else isn’t known past we’ve got more storyline to get to the destination of likely two different matches coming out of this. But Rousey & Baszler were to face whoever ends up as the tag team champions in a few weeks.”

With WrestleMania taking place at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on April 1st and April 2nd, it sounds like there could be a lot more coming for the Women’s Tag Team Title situation.
