Major Update On WWE’s Reaction To Randy Orton Injury
With Randy Orton still recuperating from a back injury suffered earlier this year, a new report has shed light on WWE’s internal reaction to the news.
Randy Orton’s back injury couldn’t have come at a worse time for ‘The Viper’. He was in the midst of a successful partnership with Matt Riddle in RK-Bro in their second go-around as Raw Tag Team Champions, delivering what many believe to be some of his best work in years.
Orton was written off WWE programming when he and Riddle dropped the championships to The Usos on the 20 May SmackDown, with news later breaking that he’d be out for the remainder of 2022. Writing in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer stated how concerned WWE is for Randy Orton:
“There is a lot of concern regarding Orton’s back injury and its severity.”
Fightful Select previously reported that Randy Orton had work done on his back prior to being taken off television, though no exact details were divulged. Original plans saw him challenging Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam; Brock Lesnar ultimately replaced him.
It’s unknown when Randy Orton will return to in-ring competition. It was reported that WWE was fearsome for any surgery he may have to undergo, which paints a dire picture of when he can be expected back between the ropes.
