Unfortunate Update On AJ Lee’s WWE Future

AJ Lee WWE

AJ Lee returned to WWE earlier this year in September.

Lee was absent from WWE for more than a decade, leaving in March 2015 due to a combination of medical issues, burnout, and wanting to write books and pursue mental health work. Her return was teased for years, but nothing occurred until the big moment on September 5, 2025, when she came back on SmackDown, reuniting with CM Punk and kicking off a viral feud with Becky Lynch, which set up a dream match for Wrestlepalooza.โ€‹

She made her long-awaited in-ring return at WWE Wrestlepalooza in Indianapolis on September 20, 2025, where she teamed up with CM Punk against Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch, and the bout was the highlight of the night. Lee got the win for her team when she made The Man tap out to the Black Widow, cementing her place back in the womenโ€™s division after a ten-year gap.

AJ Lee’s comeback was promoted as the start of a big WWE run: sheโ€™d signed a multi-year, full-time contract, and fans got hyped for more matches, promos, and feuds. Despite the hype, The Geek Goddess has basically gone radio silent on TV since Wrestlepalooza.

AJ Lee Gets Removed From WWE Banner On Netflix

Adding more doubt, Netflix switched up its banners for upcoming WWE events. At first, AJ Lee was featured as a star attraction on the November 17 Raw banner, the big Madison Square Garden show. But just this week, Netflix quietly replaced her with John Cena, fueling wild fan speculation that her WWE status is now uncertain.

The WWE Universe was expecting Lee to start a singles rivalry with Becky Lynch for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. However, in her absence, Lynch has started a feud with breakout star Maxxine Dupri. Dupri even defeated the champion twice over the past couple of weeks, but isn’t very happy with her victories.
