UK Remains Determined To Land WWE WrestleMania
The UK is determined to host WWE WrestleMania.
Back in January, a spokesperson for London Mayor Sadiq Khan said he’s as committed as ever to bringing WrestleMania to the city.
The comments came after Khan met with Triple H and Nick Khan in July 2024 in a bid to get WWE to hold the spectacular in the UK. While the move would be popular with fans across the pond, the likes of Drew McIntyre, John Cena, and more have thrown their support behind the idea.
While WWE has previously been hesitant to move its flagship events outside of North America, that will change in 2026 when the Royal Rumble will land in Saudi Arabia. This sparked fresh speculation and hope in the UK that WrestleMania could also be on the move in the future.
London Mayor Reaffirms WWE WrestleMania Commitment
In a new report looking at the economic impact of major sporting events on London’s economy, it was noted that Mayor Sadiq Khan remained committed to bringing WrestleMania to the city.
Building on London’s success, the Mayor has talked up his ambition to bring more of the biggest sporting events in the world to London. Sadiq [Khan] has expressed his support for a bid for the Olympics and Paralympics to return to London in 2040, while he remains committed to making London WrestleMania’s first international destination.
The Mayor is also in positive discussions with the NBA to bring games back to the capital, which is supported by the work of his Basketball Taskforce. The 2029 World Athletics Championships is another target.”
In a further statement, Sadiq Khan said he was proud to have such a strong track record of bringing international events to the UK.
“London is the sporting capital of the world and I am proud that we have such a strong track record of staging the biggest and best international events in our great city. This report highlights the significant economic and cultural benefits major sporting events provide for our city and the huge pride and excitement they create for Londoners and visitors.
These events shine a global spotlight on the capital and inspire young Londoners to get involved in grassroots sport, and I am focused on bringing even more to our city as we work together to build a better, healthier, more prosperous London for all.”
WWE’s next Premium Live Event is Backlash, which will take place on May 10. The event looks set to be headlined by Randy Orton vs. John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
