Trish Stratus & Mickie James Don’t Want WWE Divas Title To Return
Trish Stratus and Mickie James have responded to the idea of WWE bringing back the Divas Title with both legends making it clear they don’t want to see that happen.
During their careers in WWE, Trish Stratus was a seven-time Women’s Champion while Mickie was a six-time Women’s Champion, which includes one time as the Divas Champion. They also had one of the greatest women’s rivalries following a six-month storyline that saw Mickie, who debuted in WWE as a “fan” of Trish, win the Women’s Title for the first time at WrestleMania 22 in 2006.
That rivalry between Trish and Mickie continued again during the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble in 2018 when they faced off in the ring leading to a huge reaction from the crowd. The two legends also faced off in tag team action at the women’s only Evolution 2018 pay-per-view with Trish getting the victory with Lita against Mickie and Alicia Fox.
Earlier on Thursday, TJRWrestling ran a story featuring comments from former WWE Superstar Maria Kanellis, who commented that she thinks the Divas Title should return.
“I think they should bring back the Butterfly belt. I do. I know people will disagree with me and that’s fine. That’s why wrestling is great because when you watch wrestling, you don’t see everybody looking exactly the same.”
Upon seeing the article on Twitter, Trish simply responded with a one-word quote tweet: “No.”
Shortly after the tweet from Trish, Mickie also chimed in about why she preferred the more classic WWE Women’s Championship that both women held.
Personally. I prefer the OG Women’s Championship. Nothing is prettier.
The women who held that championship were legends, Icons, History makers, Game changers. Ceiling breakers, todays road pavers. This one. Not so much. https://t.co/Ckh5chQ73L— Mickie James~Aldis (@MickieJames) September 22, 2022
Mickie responded to another fan (who reminded Mickie that she held the Divas Title) by telling them that she never dreamed of being a Divas Champion, she dreamed of being a Women’s Champion.
“I sure did. But if you’re comparing it to the OG then nope. It was cute yes. But not even close to the same respect or nostalgia. I’d always dreamed of being THE Women’s Champion. I never once dreamed of being a Diva.”
Trish Stratus was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013 and was most recently on the August 22nd edition of Raw leading to a huge ovation from her hometown Toronto crowd.
Mickie James currently works for Impact Wrestling, she was in the 2022 Royal Rumble while holding the Knockouts Title and she had two runs in WWE from 2005-2010 and 2017-2021. It’s fair to assume that she will be joining Trish in the WWE Hall of Fame some day.
WWE has two singles Women’s Titles on the main roster with Bianca Belair holding the Raw Women’s Title and Liv Morgan as the Smackdown Women’s Champion.
