Triple H Switching WWE Star Back To Old Gimmick

Triple H has not been shy about ringing the changes since taking the creative reins of WWE and now he is set to give one star in the company their previous name and gimmick back.

Pete Dunne made his name under the WWE umbrella on NXT UK where he held the NXT UK Championship for 685 days before going on to more success on the US NXT brand.

As part of NXT Dunne won the NXT Tag Team Championship and the Dusty Rhodes Classic with Matt Riddle in 2020 before going on to join Pat McAfee’s Kings of NXT who did battle with The Undisputed ERA inside WarGames in December of that same year.

Dunne was called up to the WWE main roster in the spring of 2022 but that call-up was not without controversy. Rather than appearing as the master technician, Dunne turned up on SmackDown to align with Sheamus and Ridge Holland under the name of Butch with a new look and a new attitude.

Since Triple H took over creative from Vince McMahon in July 2022, Butch has since seen his signature singlet return and he has begun wrestling in a more familiar style that fans saw in NXT. But now, a new report says the days of the Butch name could also soon be over.

WrestleVotes reported that Triple H is keen to have Pete Dunne’s name return and that the star will be breaking away from The Brawling Brutes trio of himself, Sheamus, and Holland:

“Absolutely, I was told that it’s in the works. When Hunter came back, I was told that Pete Dunne was due to become Pete Dunne, but somebody said, to wait because The Brawling Brutes were catching on. When Pete Dunne returns, it won’t be as a member of the Brawling Brutes. I’m sure he’ll be back by the end of this year.”

While Butch has not competed on television since February, he has wrestled in recent dark matches before SmackDown with one of those seeing him team with Ridge Holland to defeat Hit Row.
