Trick Williams Recalls Important Conversation With WWE Executive
Trick Williams has shared details of an important meeting he had with a key figure in WWE.
When the NXT 2.0 brand was relaunched in September 2021, Trick Williams was known as a sidekick to Carmelo Hayes, who was pushed as a top star who would eventually become a two-time NXT North American Champion and NXT Champion. Trick’s role was to be a best friend, but also provide some backup as a bigger guy who could take care of business.
As 2023 progressed, Trick started getting more opportunities by becoming the NXT North American Champion. There was also a long storyline where he was mystery attacked by somebody. It turned out to be Hayes, who turned on his best friend.
Trick was able to get revenge on Melo while also becoming the popular WWE NXT Champion, who is unquestionably the face of the NXT brand.
Shawn Michaels is a two-time WWE Hall of Famer who is in charge of the NXT brand in terms of booking the shows. Michaels’ job title is WWE’s Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative meaning he’s a top executive in the company.
During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, NXT Champion Trick Williams recalled a conversation with Michaels, who gave him an ultimatum of sorts.
“When it comes to opportunities, shoutout to Shawn Michaels. We put something on TV that was the real deal. I went to Shawn Michaels office and asked him for an opportunity to show what I could do. Taking a chance on myself. ‘I enjoy working with the likes of Carmelo Hayes, he’s doing great things, but I want to see what Trick Williams can do.'”
“Shawn looked at me and said, ‘A lot of people come in my office and ask for an opportunity. A lot of times they aren’t ready for the opportunity. If I give you this opportunity and you’re not ready, you’ll be sitting on the bench.’ I was like, ‘That’s what I’m here to do. If I can’t do it, I don’t need to be here in the first place.’ That’s how it went.”
“He gave me an opportunity, and all I can say is I’m fortunate and thankful for Shawn Michaels. He did extend trust towards me to show what I can do and I hope I’m making it worth everyone’s while.”
“Closed mouths don’t get fed. You can’t sit in the back and want an opportunity and no one knows it. Ain’t nobody a mind reader. My biggest fear is not being able to reach my potential. If I sat in the back and didn’t say a word and didn’t open my mouth the whole time and I didn’t get to where I wanted to by the end of my career, I couldn’t live with myself.”
“I’m going to find out one way or another. I’m going to get out there and fail before I never get an opportunity.”
Trick Williams Looking For Revenge After Cheap Attack
As the WWE NXT Champion, Williams has been targeted by numerous people including Noam Dar along with with Meta-Four group, and also the dangerous Gallus boys.
On the May 28th episode of NXT, new WWE superstar Ethan Page made his debut by attacking Trick in the ring after a match. Page held up the NXT Title above his head to show that he was coming for the gold.
Trick Williams will likely have some sort of response on the June 4th edition of NXT, which is the last NXT episode before the Battleground PLE takes place in Las Vegas on June 9th.
