Top WWE Star Wants Chad Gable To Be Intercontinental Champion

While Chad Gable came up short in his quest for the WWE Intercontinental Championship, one top star hopes he is able to find his way to the gold.

In the main event of the September 4th edition of Raw, Gable challenged Gunther for the title in a bout that would determine whether the Austrian star would make history by becoming the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time.

With Gable’s family sitting at ringside, he and Gunther put on a widely-praised bout that saw the former Tag Team Champion come close to winning singles gold for the first time. Unfortunately, he couldn’t put The Ring General away and fell to a lariat and a huge powerbomb to take the pinfall loss.

One man who feels Gable’s pain is Cody Rhodes, who failed in his own quest to “finish the story” in front of his family at WrestleMania 39 when he couldn’t find a way to dethrone Roman Reigns.

Speaking on The Dale Jr Download, The American Nightmare praised Gable as a “true athlete” and hopes he gets another chance to win the title.

“Bringing family to the show, it’s as real as it gets. Chad did amazing. I do hope that Chad finds the Intercontinental Championship. He had the shot, I hope he finds it. Amazing. True athlete, real Olympian, amazing.

“It’s hard to tell, what we do, what is real and what isn’t. When it’s in the middle, it’s so sweet and so good. That’s as real as it gets. His daughter, wanting to see that, and have that moment.”

Rhodes took part in a dark match after Raw went off the air, and he recalled having the unenviable task of ending Gable’s moment in the spotlight.

“I felt bad because they sent me out after to raise his hand, and I have to do the dark match. I feel bad, he’s getting his time and moment and I have to go out there. Had I gone out there and he told me to ‘F off,’ no problem. He’s an amazing athlete.”

After the loss, Gable vowed that he will take the Intercontinental Championship and is ready to do whatever it takes to get a rematch.
