Top Free Agent Laughs Off WWE Links As Speculation Grows
A top free agent could be heading to WWE.
On March 13, it was reported that WWE is taking a close look at signing Jeff Cobb. The 42-year-old powerhouse has been working with NJPW since 2017, and although he continues to wrestle for the promotion, the belief is that he’s a free agent.
According to the report, one source even claimed Cobb is already listed on WWE’s internal roster. Interestingly, those in AEW don’t believe Cobb is heading in their direction, despite appearing for the company in the past.
Cobb has held talks with WWE previously and came “really close” to signing in mid-2021 before deciding to stay with NJPW, also turning down an offer from AEW in the process.
Jeff Cobb Responds To WWE Speculation
In a post on social media, Cobb appeared to laugh off the speculation, writing that the rumours are true — he will be beating Naito in the New Japan Cup.
Geez guys relax! I just woke up and holy hell! Look at all these notifications! I guess I have some explaining to do. Well let me calm everyone’s nerves….. the rumors are in fact 100% TRUE.

Cobb stayed true to his promise and beat Tetsuya Naito in a little over 15 minutes to set up a quarter-final clash with Shota Umino. In the three other quarter-final matchups, David Finlay will take on Yuya Uemura, Zack Sabre Jr. meets Taichi, and Drilla Moloney clashes with Shingo Takagi.
All four matches are set to take place on March 15.
