Tony Khan Reveals Why Women Never Main Evented AEW PPVs
Tony Khan has a roster full of talented female superstars.
These ladies have delivered some of the most awesome, breathtaking matches in the history of wrestling. However, none of them have gotten the opportunity to main event a pay-per-view yet, despite being as good as the men on the roster.
Ahead of Worlds End 2025, Tony Khan sat down for an interview with Sports Illustrated’s The Takedown, where he was asked why AEW women never make it to the main event of the match card. Khan replied that the issue is not with their talent or caliber but the right circumstances.
“It’s very potentially possible. It has to be the right match, the right situation, at the right time. If there were ever two that could do it, it would be the two you mentioned,” Khan said, referring to Mercedes Moné and Toni Storm. “But there’s a bunch of other candidates for it as well.”
AEW Women Could Main Event A PPV In The Future
When asked about Toni Storm vs Mercedes Mone at AEW All In: Texas, Khan stated that although it didn’t headline the night, it was still considered one of the main matches on the card.
Khan added that women headlining a PPV could definitely happen in the near future if things align correctly.
That was a main-event-caliber match. And it really felt that way. And it was presented as one of the main matches on the card. There were three key matches we featured on the Globe Life Field—Toni Storm and Mercedes, Omega vs. Okada, and Hangman vs. Mox. Any one of those could have been a great main event.”
“It just depends on the situation, the rivalry at the right time. For what they were going to do, going 38 minutes, tearing the house down on that particular night, I thought Hangman and Kyle was a great choice.
It’s absolutely something we can see, and I would expect to see, in the future—on the night where it makes the most sense, and it’s the biggest and most anticipated match on that card.”
