Tony Khan Wants More Big Names On AEW Roster
The AEW roster has been bolstered in recent months with new additions but Tony Khan is set to remain aggressive in his hunt for talent.
Will Ospreay officially joined AEW back in November 2023 and after finishing his commitments with NJPW, the English star has made a huge impact in the company. Ospreay defeated Bryan Danielson at Dynasty in a match that has been lauded by some as the best to have taken place ever in the United States.
Kazuchika Okada made his debut on the AEW roster in March 2024 after his time in NJPW came to an end. Okada has found success in the ring as the AEW Continental Champion and shocked many with his decision to team up with The Young Bucks in a revamped Elite.
Mercedes Mone arrived in AEW at Big Business as she put any questions about her wrestling future to an end. Mone will make her in-ring debut for the company at Double Or Nothing when she will challenge Willow Nightingale for the TBS Championship.
Tony Khan Wants More Stars In AEW
Despite the big-name recruitment drive, it seems Tony Khan is looking at more talent amid reports that several WWE stars are nearing the end of their contracts. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained that the company are still searching for talent:
I know that AEW is looking at people whose contracts are up. Whether they get anyone I don’t know, but they’re definitely looking. You know, sometimes you think that they made this big, big investment with Okada, Ospreay and Mercedes and maybe they’re not looking for other people. But they still are.
Drew McIntyre, Seth Rollins, and Becky Lynch are among the top WWE stars who are near the end of their current contracts and have yet to sign new deals. However, given the current creative in the company and with Becky Lynch capturing the Women’s World Championship on Raw, it seems unlikely that any of those stars will be jumping ship.
