Tony Khan Considering Vacating AEW Star’s Title

Tony Khan in AEW

Tony Khan has admitted that he’s thought about making a big change for two of his AEW stars that would no doubt be unpopular with fans.

MJF is the longest-reigning AEW World Champion in the company’s history but he also proudly holds another championship that means almost as much to him for different reasons. MJF and Adam Cole teamed together to capture the ROH Tag Team Championship from Aussie Open at All In. Later that night the pair squared off in a hellacious main event for MJF’s AEW Title which he retained.

However, disaster struck when Adam Cole badly injured his ankle taking him out of action for the foreseeable future. MJF retained the tag team gold at WrestleDream where he took on The Righteous in a handicap match but he had help from Samoa Joe to keep the title at Full Gear when they defeated The Gunns. That help came at a cost however as Samoa Joe will challenge MJF for the AEW World Title at Worlds Ends.

Tony Khan Looking At ROH Tag Team Title Situation

Speaking at the ROH Final Battle press conference, Tony Khan was asked about the situation surrounding the ROH Tag Team Championship and if he’s considering stripping MJF and Adam Cole of the title so it can again be featured in Ring of Honor:

It’s definitely something to look at at some point. I know it was something that MJF said was important to him and Cole to try and maintain the belts for when Cole gets back. Obviously, it’s been a long road to recovery from a bad injury but we’re all excited about having Adam Cole back in AEW as soon as he can come back.

They are a great tag team for any company and certainly have been a huge part of AEW this year and a big success for us. With Adam Cole and MJF being champions it certainly, it’s something to consider.

Samoa Joe previously vacated the ROH Television Championship after holding it for 574 days as he signalled his attention to target MJF and the AEW World Title.
