Tony Khan Refuses To Rule Out Major Ring Of Honor Rebrand
Tony Khan still has big plans for Ring of Honor.
On the March 2, 2022, episode of AEW Dynamite, Tony Khan announced he’d purchased Ring of Honor. This included the promotion’s tape library, brand assets, production equipment, and more.
Since then, Khan has come in for regular criticism for his handling of the promotion, with some suggesting it’s treated as nothing more than a poor relation to AEW.
This sentiment has come to the fore several times in 2025 in relation to ROH Women’s World Champion Athena’s inconsistent appearances on AEW television. Athena is the longest-reigning ROH Champion in history and is regarded by many as one of the best women’s wrestlers in North America, but she remains largely away from the spotlight.
However, Khan remains adamant that he’s keen to develop the brand.
Tony Khan Determined To Develop AEW
During a new interview with WFAA, Tony Khan was asked about comments he made in 2024, where he suggested that Ring of Honor could be rebranded and given a new name, giving it a closer association to AEW.
Khan said that while rebranding the company is something he’s considered, it’s not something he believes is required for it to be a success.
“I still think there’s a great chance to develop ROH. We really have done a lot of work to develop ROH. They are unique companies, structurally. I think that does make a lot of sense, and I still think there’s merit to that, but there are also a lot of reasons why I’ve positioned [ROH] the way I have. Ring of Honor, I still think we have a chance to strike at great opportunities.
AEW has made huge media rights deals that have changed the landscape for all wrestling companies, including ROH, and any deal we do, it’s got to make really good sense for everyone involved, including us at ROH and also AEW,” he continued. “So, that is something I’ve considered… Right now, I think we’ve done a great job positioning the company as leaders, with leading champions like Athena and Bandido.”
During the same interview, Tony Khan admitted that AEW could hold state-sponsored events in the future. When asked about deals similar to WWE’s lengthy arrangement with Saudi Arabia, Khan said he would assess things on a case-by-case basis but could act if the deal made sense.
