Tony Khan On Praise From Top AEW Star – “Those Are Quotes I’d Want On My Tombstone”
Tony Khan opened up about his relationship with Bryan Danielson and expressed gratitude for Danielson’s kind words about him.
During a media scrum following AEW Double or Nothing, Bryan Danielson was asked to clarify reports that he would be helping Tony Khan on the company’s creative team for the upcoming AEW Collision. Danielson was full of praise for Khan, saying:
“I love working with Tony and I love working in AEW. It’s a lot of fun because, sometimes, before I even got here, Tony and I would talk on the phone sometimes for an hour-and-a-half to two hours and we’d just be talking about things and wrestling and that sort of thing. I think we have a lot of similar ideas on wrestling, and sometimes he says things to me and I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s a great idea,’ and we riff off each other really well. When we do it, it doesn’t feel like work. When you love wrestling, stuff like that is fun.” (h/t WrestlingInc)
Speaking in a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Khan opened up about his relationship with Danielson, praising his close relationship with the star and calling him one of the greatest of all time.
“Bryan and I have had a very close relationship since he came to AEW. He’s one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, and he’s one of the most intelligent people I’ve ever known. He has a great mind, and I love talking to him about stories, matches, ideas and psychology.
“I work with a number of people closely to bounce ideas off, and Bryan has been involved with us in the office more than ever lately. He had some very complimentary things to say about our relationship and working together, and to receive that type of praise from someone I respect so much, those are quotes I’d want on my tombstone.” (h/t Sports Illustrated)
The first episode of AEW Collision is set to emanate from the United Center in Chicago, IL on June 17th and will feature CM Punk in the main event. Meanwhile, Danielson is already looking ahead to Forbidden Door, where he’ll take on Kazuchika Okada.
