Tony Khan Names AEW Star One Of His Personal Favourites

Tony Khan AEW

Tony Khan is unsurprisingly a big fan of one rising AEW star.

One of AEW’s biggest success stories in 2023 has been Swerve Strickland. The star has moved away from competing for tag team honours to establish himself as one of the top heels in the promotion. Strickland recently overcame Hangman Adam Page at Full Gear in an acclaimed and controversial Texas Death Match, before landing a spot in the Continental Classic.

During a recent interview with the New York Post, AEW boss Tony Khan was asked about the star and whether he’s moved into World Title contention. Khan was full of praise for the former WWE Superstar, explaining that he’s now one of the top performers in the company.

“Swerve is one of my personal favorite wrestlers and somebody that I have believed in since AEW signed him. … We believed he’d be important for our future. We presented him as a star since then. He’s been a world tag team champion and he’s been very successful as a top singles star.

I think Swerve in any match in any situation is a great pick. He’s definitely one of our top stars that the company is really behind. I’ve always personally believed in Swerve and if you look at his development on television since he arrived he’s been a constant focus of the company and he’s developed steadily and it’s through his hard work the connection he’s made with the fans.

Swerve is a rising star of the moment and for the future and one of the great assets in AEW.”

Tony Khan Praises CM Punk

During the same interview, Tony Khan also paid tribute to CM Punk. The AEW President has been largely quiet on all things CM Punk since the former World Champion returned to WWE at Survivor Series, however, he said that this doesn’t take away from the good work he was involved with while All Elite.

“The First Dance was an incredible moment in wrestling and was part of a very important time in AEW.

All Out 2021, along with All In, are our biggest pay-per-views of all time and we’ve had a lot of great success as a company as a team and in some of the most exciting times, CM Punk has been a big part of that team.”

CM Punk is said to be in talks with WWE over a huge dream match with Stone Cold Steve Austin.
