Tony Khan Was Forced Into Booking Changes During Continental Classic

Tony Khan AEW

Tony Khan made some changes to the booking of the Continental Classic.

At Worlds End, the first-ever Continental Classic came to a conclusion with Eddie Kingston getting the better of Jon Moxley. The win topped off an incredible year for Kingston who also achieved his dreams of becoming a World Champion and competing in New Japan’s famous G1 Climax Tournament.

However, the tournament underwent a few tweaks along the way.

Reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer stated that Khan wanted to include more time-limit draws, but he was talked out of it.

“There were booking changes in the original incarnation of the Continental Classic. Originally there were going to be more time limit draws but Tony Khan with feedback from others ended up limiting it to just the Bryan Danielson vs. Claudio Castagnoli match. I believe in every incarnation it was to come down to Eddie Kingston vs. Jon Moxley.”

Tony Khan Promises Big Future For AEW Star

Although he didn’t pick up as many wins as he would have liked, Daniel Garcia enjoyed a strong run impressing fans with his performances. Garcia was also in the first AEW Dynamite main event of 2024, going up against Swerve Strickland, although again he came up short.

Despite this, Tony Khan talked up Daniel Garcia after the show, telling fans they could expect to see the star heavily featured over the rest of the year.
