Tony Khan Backs Controversial Report On AEW Viewing Figures

AEW President Tony Khan

Tony Khan has supported an “exciting” report into viewing figures for AEW Dynamite.

It was recently reported by BJ Bethel of SEScoops, that AEW Dynamite has been pulling in an average of around 500,000 viewers on the streaming service Max. Interestingly, this would put the total viewership of the show over the one million mark.

In the typically tribalistic world of social media, the report immediately split fans while industry insiders tried to make sense of the numbers.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer noted that working out AEW’s viewing figures accurately is incredibly difficult as “nobody knows” the true streaming figures on Max.

Tony Khan Endorses Report Into Viewing Figures

During a media call ahead of AEW Dynasty, Tony Khan was asked about the report by Jon Alba, and he revealed that it backed up what he’d been told. Khan noted that while numbers are kept under wraps, the reported figures are consistent with what he’s heard.

“I thought that was a really exciting report for AEW and very consistent with everything we’ve been told. While the numbers are being kept close to the vest, we’re one of the top sports streaming shows and that report was consistent with what I’ve heard.”

In less positive news for the company, it was reported that Orange Cassidy is out of action with a suspected pectoral injury. The exact details of the issue are unknown, but the news comes just 24 hours after it was confirmed that Jay White is also dealing with an injury. However, Switchblade will be undergoing surgery for the undisclosed problem.

White’s injury has sparked significant creative changes to the Owen Hart Cup where the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion has been replaced by new signing Kevin Knight.
