Tony Khan Addresses Status Of Absent AEW Star
Tony Khan has clarified the reason why a specific person hasn’t been seen since she suffered a major upset.
Jade Cargill hasn’t been seen, heard from, or mentioned by anyone on-air on AEW programming since she lost her AEW TBS Championship to the returning Kris Statlander at Double or Nothing on May 28th.
With no announcement of a rematch, or any follow-up to her undefeated streak ending the way it did, some fans have started wondering if Cargill is gone from AEW completely.
Tony Khan confirms Jade Cargill isn’t leaving AEW
In an interview with Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Tony Khan confirmed that Jade Cargill is still signed with the company, though he declined to provide any detail into a possible return date or reason for her absence.
“Well, Jade’s still with us, and Jade has been on sabbatical since her upset, I believe title loss after her unbelievable undefeated run. And Kris Statlander now is the TBS Champion, and she’s made some great defenses of the title, but Jade is still with us.
And I can’t say for certain what anybody’s going to do in the future, but certainly we value Jade and everything she’s done here.”
Jade Cargill signed with AEW in 2021 and embarked on a Goldberg-like undefeated streak. She won 61 consecutive matches, not including her elimination from the 2021 Casino Battle Royale.
Meanwhile, Kris Statlander has taken over Cargill’s role of defending the TBS Championship on a regular basis. Since winning it a Double or Nothing, she has successfully defended it seven times, most recently against Marina Shafir on the July 19th edition of Rampage.
