Tony Khan Brings In 2 Names To Help Train AEW Wrestlers
Tony Khan has made moves in his back office team adding two names to AEW including one that only left the company at the end of 2023.
Rocky Romero has officially joined AEW in a backstage capacity in addition to his roles in both New Japan Pro Wrestling and CMLL. Romero has competed several times for AEW, mainly with his CHAOS partners Trent Beretta, Orange Cassidy, and Chuck Taylor but now he’ll be officially working with Tony Khan.
There was perhaps more surprise when it emerged QT Marshall had rejoined AEW, just a few short weeks after he originally left the company. Marshall was believed to be frustrated at the direction the company was going but now he’s returned although it is not believed he will be wrestling for the company again.
What Has Tony Khan Got In Mind For 2 New Backstage Signings?
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer elaborated on what Rocky Romero and QT Marshall’s roles in the company will be going forward:
Rocky’s role is gonna be talent development so essentially training wrestlers and working with younger talent. Also, [he’ll be] an international liaison obviously with New Japan and CMLL.
QT’s key role essentially is going to be talent development as well, a trainer and everything like that. He left December 31st and Tony Khan left the door open that if he wanted to come back he could come back and he wanted to come back. He wanted to make it as a main event wrestler and he worked a bunch of indies and he could still work those indies but he’s coming back [to AEW] in that role.
QT Marshall runs the Nightmare Factory wrestling school that he opened with Cody Rhodes. He is also part of the relaunched Turnbuckle Championship Wrestling which saw a former WCW star have their first match in 15 years.
