TNA Looking To Bring In Former WWE World Champion
A big-name WWE star could be heading to TNA.
After appearing at Slammiversary, speculation immediately went into overdrive linking AJ Styles with one more match under the TNA banner. While Styles has spent the last near-decade with WWE, it was working for TNA that he truly made his name.
In recent days, it was announced that TNA had reached an agreement with AMC on a new media rights deal. The new contract marks a massive step towards stability for TNA, with flagship show Impact set to air every Thursday at 9pm ET.
Unsurprisingly, the news of the deal and WWE’s rumoured involvement has only added to claims that Styles will return to TNA, even if only briefly.
Could AJ Styles Step Outside Of WWE?
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer confirmed that TNA would like to use Styles for its debut on AMC on January 15. Not only that, the company would like him to wrestle on the episode.
“One WWE source indicated that TNA would like to have AJ Styles wrestle on the first show. It would certainly make sense to deliver a strong rating and Styles himself has said he’d like to do a match in TNA.”
Meltzer went on to reiterate that the decision would rest with WWE rather than Styles himself, before suggesting that a match with Frankie Kazarian would make the most sense on paper.
“Styles and Frankie Kazarian, the current champion, would likely want to do a match like that since they were around together for years in the promotion.”
Despite the excitement among fans, AJ Styles recently said that WWE was preventing him from returning to TNA for a match.
