Thunder Rosa “Made Amends” Before Recent AEW Return
Thunder Rosa returned to AEW at the Spanish announce table on the 8th of February edition of Dynamite, but a report says more went into her return than was first realised.
In late August 2022, Thunder Rosa announced in a backstage promo that she had to take some time away from the ring due to injury and therefore could not defend her AEW Women’s World Title at All Out. A four-way match took place featuring Toni Storm, Dr. Britt Baker DMD, Jamie Hayter, and Hikaru Shida to crown an interim champion with Storm picking up that win.
As Rosa’s back injury proved to be more prolonged, she was eventually stripped of the title with Storm’s reign retrospectively considered a full title reign as is the current champion’s, Jamie Hayter.
Dynamite was in El Paso, Texas on the 8th of February and Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Thunder Rosa was part of the show, providing Spanish language commentary.
Fightful Select followed up with a report that a talent meeting took place before that show with Thunder Rosa’s return as the reason for it. The entire AEW women’s division was part of the meeting which was held as a way to resolve tension from frayed relationships between Rosa and the other women in the promotion.
The report notes that sources revealed that La Mera Mera did a lot of “making amends” for issues that were raised during her time so far in the company. Many took issue with the fact they felt that Thunder Rosa made some of the roster look like bullies, and the sand-bagging problem that was most obvious in a match with Marina Shafir and her working stiff was also raised.
One management source believed that the meeting was “productive” and hoped that Thunder Rosa and the rest of the women’s locker room were starting over with a “clean slate.”
