The Undertaker Reveals What He Was “Most Nervous” To Tell Vince McMahon
WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker revealed that proposing the American Badass gimmick to Vince McMahon was the most nerve-wracking experience of his storied career.
In an episode of his podcast, “Six Feet Under with Mark Calaway,” The Undertaker candidly shared the pivotal moment that left him on edge.
That was probably what I was most nervous about. Not the night that I’d debut it but actually telling Vince, ‘What do you think about this?’ I was totally expecting him to go, ‘There’s no damn way, you’ll be fine, screw all those guys talking and cutting those great promos.’
The Undertaker reflected on the apprehension that plagued him leading up to the pivotal conversation with McMahon. However, to his surprise, McMahon expressed enthusiastic approval of the concept, leaving The Undertaker astounded by the positive reception.
I have a meeting with him, and it’s like, ‘Boss, this is what I’m thinking.’ And I explained my reasoning for it, and it was like, ‘God damn that’s good, that’s great.’ I’m thinking it’s a rib, like here comes the punchline, he’s about to pull the rug right out from underneath me.
The Undertaker recalled, acknowledging his disbelief at McMahon’s endorsement. Despite his initial scepticism, McMahon’s genuine excitement mirrored The Undertaker’s own vision for the American Badass persona. This enthusiastic response from McMahon reinforced their shared understanding of the character’s vintage appeal and solidified the decision to move forward with the new gimmick.
What Was The One Rib That Vince McMahon Failed To Pull On The Undertaker?
The Undertaker recalled how Vince McMahon never got him to do a Spinaroonie after an episode of Raw went off the air in 2002. Undertaker was involved in a tag match in the main event of the August 12th 2002 Raw show which saw him team with Goldust and Booker T, after the show Booker, Goldust, The Rock, Triple H and McMahon all tried to convince Undertaker to complete a Spinaroonie in an attempted rib but ultimately failed.
