The Undertaker Reflects On Creative Booking Idea Of Having To Portray Fellow Hall Of Famer
In a recent episode of his “Six Feet Under with Mark Calaway” podcast, WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker reminisced about the time he dressed up as his kayfabe brother, Kane, on two separate occasions during the Attitude Era.
The Undertaker spoke highly of the experience, describing the creative idea as “genius.”
I don’t know whose idea it was. But it was genius. It was just funny because you’re with these people all the time but then when you have to emulate them with their mannerisms and everything it becomes kind of pressure filled to sell it without being tipped off.
Despite some initial doubts about fitting into Kane’s larger frame, The Undertaker was able to pull off the impersonation seamlessly, leaving the fans unaware that it was not the actual Kane on screen.
When we did that I think Kane was probably like 25 pounds heavier than I was, so I was like oh man I’m going to look like anorexic Kane in this suit. But both times it came off without a hitch, nobody had a clue and it’s just one of those iconic moments with me pulling the mask off and hearing Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler flipping out. Yeah it was fun. It was real creative booking and good stuff man.
The Undertaker’s positive recollection of the experience highlights the creative ingenuity that was often on display during the Attitude Era, where unexpected and memorable moments could captivate the audience. The successful execution of the Kane impersonation showcased The Undertaker’s versatility and commitment to his craft, further cementing his status as one of the most iconic figures in WWE history.
The Undertaker Recalls A Botch That Was “So Much Fun”
During an interview with Inside The Ropes, The Undertaker detailed a match where a scripted powerbomb sequence took an unexpected turn when his partner Kane unintentionally tossed their opponent over his head when attempting The Undertaker’s last ride powerbomb.
