The Real Reason The Undertaker Had Heat With Ex-World Champion
The wrestling business does not serve everyone fairly.
It is an industry where some performers become legends, whereas others fade into nothingness.
The Undertaker has cemented an unshakable legacy. While he has mainly donned the Deadman persona, he briefly remodeled himself as the American Badass, which was panned by many.
During his almost three-decade-long WWE career, he even served as the locker room leader. Since retiring in 2020, he has taken a backstage role and is even a judge on WWE LFG, a developmental reality TV show.
While speaking on Maven’s YouTube channel, former World Champion Vince Russo revealed the reason behind receiving heat from The Undertaker.
I’m gonna tell you a story about The Undertaker because first of all, a lot of times, Taker was on last, he was always the last match. And what I used to do is I used to wait around to thank all the boys for their performance that night. Without that, I don’t have a job. So, I literally would have to look for Taker, and there’s not a lot of people left in the building, and every time I would find him, it would be in some nook or cranny with him laying flat on his back in total pain.
When I left the WWE, Terry Taylor mentioned to me that he had a conversation with Taker and Taker had a little bit of heat with me because Taker told Terry I always used to make him work hurt. No, I never used to make him work hurt. [2:07 onward]
The Undertaker Names His Greatest Match In WWE
The Undertaker has wrestled in numerous matches, taking bumps as well as burying his opponents.
But one match stands out for him due to its sheer quality and the storytelling behind it. The Phenom spoke about his match with Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 25 while appearing on the 2 Bears, 1 Cave podcast.
So the match I’m probably… man, as far as a wrestling purist kind of match, would have to be WrestleMania 25. Shawn Michaels.”
“That was as close to perfect that I ever got.”
“We were both in our 40s, both late in our careers. But the story we were able to tell? That’s what wrestling is all about. Wrestling is a soap opera with violence.”
“They all thought there was a chance I was going to lose the streak. That’s the goal—you want them to go through that emotional ride.
