The Undertaker Names His Greatest WWE Match Ever
The Undertaker was active in the wrestling business for three decades.
Over the past few decades, The Phenom has had countless matches in the ring. But when asked to pick only one as his “greatest matches of all time,” he picked his WrestleMania 25 bout with Shawn Michaels. Speaking in an interview with the 2 Bears, 1 Cave podcast with Tom Segura, he revealed the bout was extra special for him for a couple of reasons.
First of all, they were in their 40s at the time, which means not their prime wrestling era, yet they delivered an intense physical bout. Secondly, the WWE Universe was deeply engrossed in the match because The Undertaker’s undefeated streak was on the line, and many thought it was the end of his streak.
“So the match I’m probably… man, as far as a wrestling purist kind of match, would have to be WrestleMania 25. Shawn Michaels.”
“That was as close to perfect that I ever got.”
“We were both in our 40s, both late in our careers. But the story we were able to tell? That’s what wrestling is all about. Wrestling is a soap opera with violence.”
“They all thought there was a chance I was going to lose the streak. That’s the goal—you want them to go through that emotional ride.”
The Undertaker Rules Out In-Ring Return
Speaking on the same interview, The Undertaker also revealed that all the years he spent inside the wrestling ring took a big toll on his body. Even after retiring in 2020, he still goes through a lot of physical pain today. He also stated that he keeps his body moving for the sake of his health, but so far has no intention of returning to the ring.
“So I do twice the workouts, for half the results, but, you know, it keeps me moving. It keeps my mind going as well, like, you know, although I know I’m not going to get back in the ring and have a match, it’s just better for my mind,” Taker said.
