The Rock Wanted To End Cody Rhodes’ WWE Title Reign At Elimination Chamber
If The Rock had full creative control, Cody Rhodes’ journey would have been much different today.
On February 21, he cut a cryptic promo on SmackDown, and later, asked ‘The American Nightmare’ to align with him by selling his soul to him.
On March 1, ‘The People’s Champ’ made his presence felt at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada, seeking answers.
It was the Elimination Chamber PLE. John Cena had just won the main event, securing his chance to challenge Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41.
Rhodes defied The Rock in front of the whole world, but the latter had a Plan B.
He made a throat-slitting signal, following which Cena launched a vicious attack on Rhodes, completing his first heel turn in 20 years.
Rhodes would go on to lose his title at WrestleMania 41 to Cena, with The Rock nowhere to be seen.
The Rock Pitched An Idea For Cody Rhodes To Lose The Title At Elimination Chamber
WWE: Unreal is truly delivering on offering viewers a look behind the scenes into the Stamford promotion’s production.
In an episode, it was revealed that The Rock had pitched a different storyline for Cody Rhodes with his writer, Brian Gewirtz.
Gewirtz explained that their idea was two-fold, with the first showing Rhodes as Rock’s champion.
The second part involved Rhodes turning down ‘The Final Boss,’ which would result in the latter using his influence to make an impromptu title match.
The match would see Rhodes face Kevin Owens, and he would lose his title in the process.
The Rock and his writer pitched an idea where Cody Rhodes turns down his favor at Elimination Chamber, so Rock uses his power to set up a title match on the spot against Kevin Owens, and Owens wins the Undisputed Title.

Of course, WWE went in a different direction, giving wrestling fans a final look at heel John Cena instead.
