The Rock Still In Touch With WCW Legend
The Rock is still in touch with a former rival.
After ultimately failing in his dream to make a career for himself in the NFL via a short stint in the Canadian Football League, The Rock decided to try his hand at the family business, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Meanwhile in Georgia six years earlier, Bill Goldberg did make it to the NFL after being drafted by the LA Rams in 1990. The defensive tackle would go on to be signed by the Atlanta Falcons and the Carolina Panthers before suffering a major abdominal injury.
During his rehabilitation, Goldberg signed with WCW, and a legendary career was born.
Fast forward to 2003 and The Rock finally crossed paths with Goldberg in the ring after the latter debuted by hitting him with a Spear on the Raw after WrestleMania 19. Goldberg went on to defeat the star at Backlash.
The Rock Chats Football With Goldberg
During an appearance on News4Jax’s Going Ringside podcast, Goldberg discussed his love of football and career in wrestling, reflecting on working with the likes of Steve McMichael, Kevin Greene, and The Rock.
“That’s my job. That’s what I do. It was fun. I mean, McMichael, it was awesome to be able to share the ring with him,” he said. “Kevin Greene, people forget about Kevin being a part of it. Obviously, The Rock, everybody knows who that is.
It was different for me, being able to work with those guys, because they understood. They knew what I went through. They knew the back story. They had lived the lives I had before I did.”
Goldberg went on to reveal that he still talks football with The Rock, before saying it was amazing that Brock Lesnar got as far as he did when trying to land an NFL contract after leaving WWE in 2004.
The friendship between Rock and Goldberg may appear surprising on the surface, but the Hollywood megastar played a key role in WWE signing Goldberg back in 2003.
Goldberg has announced he’ll be returning to WWE for a retirement match in 2025. The date of the bout and his opponent have yet to be confirmed.
