The Rock Reveals Who He Called To Ensure WWE Return

The Rock WWE

The Rock electrifies audiences wherever he goes and back in September, the SmackDown crowd in Boulder, Colorado were treated to a very special surprise.

Pat McAfee made his shock return to WWE SmackDown to confront his old WrestleMania opponent Austin Theory but a bigger surprise lay in wait. After McAfee told Theory that SmackDown was the people’s show, The People’s Champ made his first return to the blue brand since 2019.

It took four and a half minutes from The Rock’s music hitting to him finally telling Austin Theory to shut up as only he can and the crowd came unglued when he finally dropped the cocky star with a spinebuster and finished him off with a People’s Elbow.

The Rock Called Nick Khan To Ensure WWE Return

Appearing on The Tonight Show, Dwayne Johnson opened up about his shock return to WWE and revealed how last minute the appearance came together:

It was incredible. So here’s the crazy thing about that we were in Boulder, I was there for College Game Day. And I found out the night before that WWE SmackDown is going to be in Denver, which is right up the road. So I call my buddies at WWE, Nick Khan, and I said, hey, man, I heard SmackDown is here. Can you confirm that? He said it is. I said, good, well, The Rock is coming to Smackdown.

I went out there and it was really an incredible thing. And I’ve been really lucky over the years to entertain in a lot of different ways but that kind of connection with the WWE [fans]. By the way, that kind of connection is just like this tonight with a live audience. There’s nothing like it.

So my music hit. If you smell… I went out there. They had no idea. And you guys know how hard it is to keep a secret. You don’t. It doesn’t exist. This was a full on secret. The people went nuts. 13,000 people sounding like 130,000 people, and it was just incredible. So WWE audience, it’s my family, and I love them. And it was incredible.

Rumours continue to swirl over whether or not The Rock will have any involvement in WrestleMania 40 but with the writer’s and actor’s strike in Hollywood coming to an end, his time for WWE will be severely limited once again.
