The AEW Star Tony Khan Wants To Stay Forever

Tony Khan believes an AEW star has become invaluable.

In the days before WrestleDream, Samoa Joe admitted that his current contract would likely be his last as an active wrestler. Joe said that he’s wary of overstaying his welcome, so he wants to bow out while he can still perform at a high level.

However, unlike John Cena and potentially AJ Styles, Joe noted that there won’t be any grand retirement tour; instead, he’ll just quietly ride off into the sunset.

At WrestleDream, Joe failed in his bid to dethrone World Champion “Hangman” Adam Page.

Tony Khan Wants To Keep Samoa Joe In AEW

While speaking to Josh Martinez of Z100 New York, Tony Khan was asked about Joe’s importance to AEW. Khan noted that while the former World Champion is still an impressive performer in the ring, he’s also become a key figure behind the scenes.

The AEW boss added that he’d love to keep Joe involved with the company after his retirement.

“Hugely valuable. Samoa Joe is already one of the top mentors in AEW and anybody who steps in the ring with Samoa Joe learns a lot and anybody (who) gets the tutelage of Samoa Joe in AEW learns a lot.

I think Powerhouse Hobbs is a great example of somebody who is currently learning a lot from Samoa Joe that will benefit him throughout the rest of his career. I know he’s learning, to quote Samoa Joe, life lessons.

Life lessons that will be with him for the rest of his life, and I am very, very proud to have Samoa Joe in AEW and I’m very optimistic that eventually, whenever Samoa Joe does decide to retire from the ring, I’m very hopeful and optimistic that Samoa Joe will stay with us in AEW and be a mentor to the wrestlers… And my hope is that Samoa Joe will stay with us in AEW forever.”

During the same conversation, Tony Khan also heaped praise on fellow veteran John Cena. The WWE legend is set to retire on December 13 at a Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C. Although there’s been no official announcement, Cena is expected to face Gunther in his last match.
