The Acclaimed Leave Grand Slam As Champions
It was a historic night in New York City as AEW Grand Slam took place with The Acclaimed among the night’s victors, leaving as new AEW World Tag Team Champions.
Max Caster and Anthony Bowens are very much considered AEW originals, joining the company as singles stars before being put together as The Acclaimed, with their chemistry both in and out of the ring clearly off the charts.
The duo had been villains for most of their run but a mixture of their in-ring prowess and Caster’s incredible – and occasionally controversial – raps found them gaining fan support week after week. And then something happened that put the pair’s popularity through the roof – enter Billy Gunn.
The WWE Hall of Famer became aligned with The Acclaimed when Caster began teaming with Colten and Austin Gunn while Bowens was out with an injury. A couple of shocking turns later, Billy Gunn was abandoned by his sons but found solace in his friendship with Bowens and Caster. Scissor me Daddy Ass was born and the people loved it.
At All Out The Acclaimed squared off with AEW Tag Team Champions Swerve In Our Glory for the gold but on that night the champions proved just too much for Caster and Bowens to handle, however at AEW Grand Slam it was a different story.
On a night full of title changes, The Acclaimed reached the pinnacle of the company’s tag team division picking up the win and with it the first championship of their AEW career.
