Ted DiBiase Recalls How A WWE Hall Of Famer Made Another Wrestler Quit

WWE Hall of Famer Ted DiBiase opened up about the formidable presence of the legendary Andre the Giant, revealing how Andre’s disapproval could compel even the most renowned wrestlers to leave the industry.

Reflecting on a tag team match from 1979 in a candid interview with “WrestlingInc.com,” DiBiase recounted an intense encounter involving himself, Andre, and Ivan Putski against The Valiant Brothers. DiBiase vividly described Andre’s evident disdain for Putski, which led to an extraordinary directive during the match.

Way back in 1979 when I was there [in WWE] working for Vince Sr. in a tag team match one night, it was me, Andre and Ivan Putski against The Valiant Brothers. Andre did not like Putski at all. Andre told me, ‘You tag me. No one else.’ ‘You bet boss, whatever you say!’ [I replied].

Throughout the match, DiBiase adhered to Andre’s command, ensuring Putski never entered the ring. This incident underscored the strained relationship between Putski and his peers.

He made sure I did that. He Putski basically stand on the apron the entire match. Putski wasn’t really one of those guys that a lot of people liked.

DiBiase then shared another story, illustrating Andre’s influential power within the wrestling world. He recounted a night at Madison Square Garden where he was set to appear in a cage match against Randy Savage. Prior to their bout, Andre faced off against Bam Bam Bigelow. The aftermath of this match saw Bigelow storm out of the venue and quit.

The night that Randy [Savage] and I had the cage match in Madison Square Garden, just prior to our match, Andre worked with Bam Bam Bigelow. And that’s the night Bigelow walked into the dressing room and got all his stuff together, packed his bag and walked out the door and quit.

How Tall Did A WWE Hall Of Famer Say Andre The Giant Really Was?

WWE Hall of Famer Larry Zbyszko spoke about the true height of Andre the Giant and said that he thought Andre was probably between 7 feet and 7’1. Zbyszko doesn’t believe that Andre was ever 7’4 as he was billed but that due to his imposing stature and afro hair style it made him look 8 feet tall.
