Surprising WWE Name To Be A “Major Player” In AAA
Another WWE star is set for a major role in AAA.
After losing to Penta back in early January, Chad Gable embarked on a quest to learn the secrets of lucha libre. This saw him return to television two months later under a mask as El Grande Americano.
The ongoing joke is that Gable and Americano aren’t the same person, something leaned into even more heavily since Gable underwent shoulder surgery. With Gable out, the character has been picked up by Ludwig Kaiser.
But despite the light-hearted storylines to this point, things could be about to change dramatically.
As reported by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is looking to establish El Grande Americano as a “major player” in AAA. This would see the character presented much more seriously, moving away from the comic persona used on Raw.
WWE Planning Big Push For Dominik Mysterio
The report comes after it was claimed that WWE is looking to make Dominik Mysterio the AAA Mega Champion. According to the report, plans to make the switch are being “strongly considered,” and as a result, Mysterio could become the face of the promotion.
The company believes that the idea of AAA’s top champion appearing regularly on WWE television is “appealing to both sides.”
Mysterio, El Grande Americano, and Dragon Lee are set to challenge for the Mega Championship at Triplemania XXXIII on August 16.
Before heading back to Mexico, Mysterio will defend the Intercontinental Championship against AJ Styles on night two of SummerSlam. Should Styles win, it will be only the second time he’s ever held the title.
