Stone Cold Steve Austin Could Face Ex-WWE Champion At WrestleMania 43

Stone Cold Steve Austin has been touted for a major match against a former WWE Champion at WrestleMania 43.

WrestleMania 43 will take place in Saudi Arabia in 2027, as for the first time ever, the showcase of the immortals leaves North America. The decision by TKO to move WWE’s showpiece event to the Middle East has caused outrage for a lot of fans, with a huge sum of money at the heart of the decision.

For the amount being paid, Saudi Arabia is expected to be calling the shots to some degree for the show, and many retired WWE stars are seemingly in line for a bumper payday if they choose to return to the ring one more time. The Rock is already being targeted for another bout, but names such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Undertaker, and Shawn Michaels have also been speculated upon for a comeback.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Drew McIntyre In WWE’s Plans?

Speaking on Notsam Wrestling, WWE broadcaster Sam Roberts suggested the perfect opponent for Stone Cold Steve Austin if he wants to compete in his first match since he took on Kevin Owens in the main event of WrestleMania 38:

I think [Steve] Austin has said on more than one occasion that he may have one more left in him. So I think we can fantasy book the idea of a Stone Cold Steve Austin match.

We’ve gotten Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38, and that was unbelievable. Do we want Austin vs. Punk? Is that the Austin match? Of course, that’s been the fantasy match for a long time. Would you rather have Austin/Punk or Punk/Rhodes if you can only have one of them? And if that’s the case, then who do you put with Stone Cold Steve Austin?

I think by then, a year and a half from now, Bron Breakker vs. Steve Austin could get very, very interesting. You know what could be really good? Drew McIntyre and Steve Austin. The idea of Drew McIntyre being the one guy who doesn’t have this wave of nostalgia, Drew McIntyre being the one guy that’s not impressed with Stone Cold Steve Austin. Drew McIntyre is that type of heel, and if you want to build a heel against Steve Austin, who is the biggest babyface of all time, even though he’s an anti-hero.

Drew McIntyre vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin feels very, very interesting to me.
