The legendary Sting officially retired at AEW Revolution on March 3, 2024, at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina.

He ended his career as an undefeated tag team wrestler alongside Darby Allin, retaining the AEW Tag Team Titles.

Sammy Guevara’s tag team partner, Dustin Rhodes, recently suffered a legitimate injury that required double knee replacement surgery. The cause of the injury (storyline) was a brutal street fight with Kyle Fletcher on AEW Collision. Due to this significant injury, the AEW veteran had to take an indefinite hiatus from wrestling, relinquishing his tag team titles.

Rhodes’ injury also led to him missing Ring of Honor Death Before Dishonor on August 29, 2025. This left Guevara, who had a scheduled match at the event, alone and searching for help. In his quest to find a new partner, Guevara went to The Franchise to ask him to join forces with him.

Sammy Guevara asks Sting to be his partner for ROH Death Before Dishonor

In a recent vlog, AEW star Sammy Guevara expressed his desire to have Sting as his tag team partner for ROH Death Before Dishonor. Sting reminded him that he had already retired, to which Guevara suggested that The Icon should come out of retirement to team up with him.

Sammy: “Okay, I really need a partner for Ring of Honor. I can’t think of a better partner than The Stinger. Sting, can you be my partner so we can go win some tag team gold?”

Sting: “I’m retired.”

Sammy: “But what if you came out of retirement?”

Sting: “Well, we’d probably win, but that’s a whole other topic.”

Sammy: “That’s true.”

Despite the humorous attempt, Sting remained firm on retirement, and Sammy Guevara later teamed up with another wrestler for the event. At ROH Death Before Dishonor, Guevara teamed up with Rush as his surprise partner. The duo defeated The Outrunners (Truth Magnum & Turbo Floyd) to win the vacant ROH World Tag Team Championship. The event also marked a heel turn for Guevara.

The same night, Guevara (with Marshall von Erich and Ross von Erich) also challenged Shane Taylor Promotions (Carlie Bravo, Shane Taylor & Shawn Dean) for the vacant ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Title Match but was defeated but their opponents.
