Shocking Allegation Made About Stephanie McMahon’s WWE Backstage Behavior
Stephanie McMahon has played a huge role in WWE both on-screen and behind the scenes. Born into the McMahon wrestling dynasty, she grew up immersed in the business.
Over the years, she wore many hats, from being an on-screen personality and wrestler to a powerful executive. She was also heavily involved in WWE’s creative direction as a head writer once.
Stephanie McMahon Wasn’t A Good Head Writer
Speaking of which, Stevie Richards recently criticized Stephanie McMahon’s head writer era, stating that he was not a big fan of the storylines she crafted. He said this on a special podcast where he discussed the best and worst bookers/writers in WWE.
He said, “I love Stephanie. VPN Stephanie is my favorite. Writer Stephanie, not so much. So, what are you going to do? This is the ultimate “the emperor has no clothes”. Her father hired her to be the head writer, the head of creative. Do you think anybody’s going to tell Stephanie that, ‘here’s a better idea,’ ‘here’s I can punch it up,’ ‘that’s a bad idea.’ I’m not going to. Now, obviously, Austin, Taker, Hunter. Well, Hunter, I don’t I don’t know if he wants any trouble either, but do you see what I mean?”
Richards also alleged that she wasn’t a good fit as a head writer, as she addressed veteran writer Vince Russo and other writers in a condescending manner, almost speaking to them like children.
“There’s no way you can do it. It was a, as the Star Wars guy said, it’s a trap. The second she was put in there, it’s an absolute trap. Vince Russo went back temporarily in 2002. And Stephanie spoke to him like he was in first grade, and she spoke to the other writers like that. And what are you going to do? Yes, Stephanie, yes. And you’ll say it too. That was the beginning of the end of a lot of things there creatively. And then The Authority came right after that. So, what can you do? You just got to ride it out and hope she gets tired of doing it, which didn’t happen.” (From 17:46)
Stephanie McMahon stepped down as Co-CEO in 2023, but she stayed connected to WWE. In 2025, she made several special appearances, including opening the 2025 Royal Rumble and SummerSlam. She also launched a podcast, “Stephanie’s Places,” in spring 2025, where she interviews top WWE stars.
