Stephanie McMahon Says Vince & Shane Opposed Major Decision
Stephanie McMahon was never supposed to be a wrestling character.
The Billion Dollar Princess recently revealed that her father, Vince McMahon, and brother, Shane McMahon, were opposed to her wrestling.
Stephanie McMahon was introduced as a friendly and innocent character in 1999 at the peak of her father’s feud with The Undertaker.
The Phenom would use Stephanie with the aim of gaining control over the company’s boss, thus, kidnapping and almost marrying her.
She would later betray her father and brother, alinging with Triple H, who was another top heel in the company at the time.
During her initial heel run, she competed in a handful of matches, even winning the Women’s Championship once.
While hosting a recent episode of What’s Your Story? With Steph McMahon with NBA star Tyrese Haliburton as the guest, the 49-year-old revealed that her family did not wanted her to wrestle.
So, she had to convince them by making a few logical points, following which Vince and Shane agreed to her wrestling.
My dad and my brother didn’t want me to wrestle ever. And I always wanted to. So, I started training and I started learning, and I convinced him. I said, “You know, dad, I’m playing this character. I’m a pretty bad-bad guy, like someone’s gonna have to get to me at some point, and I’ve gotta know how to protect myself.” And that was logical. So, then I was allowed to start training.
Stephanie McMahon Reveals If She Has One More Match In Her
Stephanie McMahon last stepped inside the squared circle wearing wrestling gear at WrestleMania 34.
She was involved in a storyline alongside her husband, Triple H, where the duo portrayed The Authority. They picked up a feud against Kurt Angle and then-UFC star Ronda Rousey.
Their match was the longest on the card and ended after Stephanie tapped out to Rousey’s armbar submission.
While appearing on the SummerSlam pre-show, Stephanie McMahon was asked by Big E if she had one more match in her.
She replied she could not hang with the current talent and was better off with outside appearances.
Trust me, I can’t hang with these women. I mean, you’re going to see Tiffany Stratton, you’re going to see Jade Cargill, you’re going to see all of these incredible matches. I just can’t compete at their level. I appreciate the question. You know, I could be the mouthpiece. I’ll come talk a good game, but you don’t want me in the ring.
Stephanie McMahon was recently announced as the first inductee into the 2026 WWE Hall of Fame.
