Stephanie McMahon Allegedly Refused To Leave Triple H For WWE Legend
One of WWE’s most iconic love triangle storylines may have gone in a very different direction if Stephanie McMahon hadn’t reportedly put her foot down.
The storyline involving Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, and Kurt Angle played out in the early 2000s and became one of the most memorable romantic angles in WWE history. With Angle playing the charming Olympic hero who developed feelings for McMahon, it created natural tension with HHH, both on-screen and behind the scenes.
At the time, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H were not only an on-screen couple, but also dating in real life. The story saw several twists and turns. At one point, McMahon briefly managed Kurt Angle and even seemed to lean toward choosing him over Hunter.
However, the story ultimately ended with Stephanie McMahon reaffirming her loyalty to Triple H. But according to veteran manager and wrestling mind Dutch Mantell, WWE initially planned something much bigger.
Stephanie McMahon Reportedly Rejected Storyline Split From Triple H
Speaking on his Story Time with Dutch Mantell podcast, Mantell shared that there were internal talks of having Stephanie McMahon leave Triple H for Kurt Angle as part of the storyline. However, those plans were allegedly shut down by Stephanie herself.
“I think Stephanie turned it down and went and blamed it on Triple H. She didn’t want to do it, but Triple H did it for her.”
This small detail sheds new light on what could have been a dramatic twist in WWE programming. The original storyline remains a fan favorite and helped further establish Kurt Angle as a top-tier performer in WWE. It also played a key role in the continued rise of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon as a power couple, both on-screen and behind the curtain.
