Star Suffers Fractured Hip During AEW Match

AEW Wheeler Yuta Jon Moxley NJPW Shota Umino

AEW has seen another serious injury take place in its ring with a NJPW star suffering a fractured hip in a recent match on Rampage.

NJPW’s Shota Umino made his singles debut in AEW on the 14th of June edition of Rampage where he faced Rocky Romero. Unfortunately for Jon Moxley’s protegé things did not end well despite Umino picking up the win.

Taking to social media, Shota Umino revealed that he’s suffering from a hip fracture and a strained disc in his back but was adamant that he’d be back in the ring for the G1 (translation by Google):

I had a hip fracture and a strained disc. It’s the L45 disc. I also had an MRI done. I’ll somehow get back to Tokyo tomorrow. I will definitely be back by G1. I’m going to take a break for a while. Sorry.

Shota Umino is scheduled to be part of the A Block in the upcoming G1 Climax tournament in New Japan Pro Wrestling alongside Tetsuya Naito, EVIL, Shingo Takagi, SANADA, Zack Sabre Jr, Great-O-Khan, Gabe Kidd, and Pro Wrestling NOAH’s Jake Lee. The tournament begins on the weekend of July 20th and 21st.

AEW Champion Forced To Give Up Title Due To Injury

Several AEW stars remain on the shelf due to injury with perhaps the most notable being Adam Copeland who was forced to vacate his TNT Title after Double Or Nothing. At the May pay-per-view, Adam Copeland broke his leg in the ring but despite that was able to successfully retain his gold against Malakai Black in a Barbed Wire Steel Cage match.
