Shawn Michaels Given Crucial Role At WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event

Shawn Michaels will have a very important role to play when WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event returns on January 25.

At the Royal Rumble, Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens will clash in a huge ladder match for the Undisputed WWE Championship. But there’s a twist.

Ever since the two stars clashed at Saturday Night’s Main Event in December, Kevin Owens has been walking around with the Winged Eagle version of the WWE Title belt that Rhodes had been given to hold for one night only on the nostalgia-laced show. Both that title and Rhodes’ own title belt will be suspended above the ring for the clash but it seems SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis has something else up his sleeve.

On the January 17 edition of SmackDown, Aldis approached both Rhodes and Owens separately about an addendum he wanted in the contract for their match at the Royal Rumble that they needed to sign. Both men said they’d sign when the other did, leaving the situation in a stalemate.

Shawn Michaels Overseeing WWE Title Contract Signing

As a result, Nick Aldis told Cody Rhodes that WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels would be at Saturday Night’s Main Event to moderate the contract signing between The American Nightmare and Kevin Owens.

Given Kevin Owens is Canadian, his own ring name is a tribute to Owen Hart, and he’s currently carrying the title belt synonymous with Bret Hart, it’d be a real shame if he had a package piledriver up his sleeve for the Heartbreak Kid.
