Shawn Michaels Discusses Relationship With The Rock

Shawn Michaels has opened up on what little relationship and communication he has had with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson over the decades.

Back in the 1990s, Shawn Michaels had a notorious attitude problem and was prone to having matches changed on a whim. There has been much speculation over his relationship with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson who was a WWE rookie when Michaels was supposedly at his worst backstage with things between the pair rumoured to be frosty.

Michaels returned to WWE in 2002 after four years out of the ring and one of the first things he did was try to make amends for his past behavior. Speaking on Logan Paul’s ImPAULsive podcast, Michaels revealed that the acrimony between the Rock and himself wasn’t as bad as the fans and wider wrestling community thought it was. Still, he tried his best to apologize to everyone he wronged in the past, including The Rock:

“I’ve never worked with him. His daughter [Simone Johnson] is here [in NXT]. The times I’ve seen him, we’ve always gotten along okay. I don’t think it was as bad as everyone made it out to be. I know that I gave everybody a hard time back when I was younger.”

“When I came back, I made sure I went up to everybody and was at least like, ‘Sorry.’ That’s the best that I could do. When I came back in 2002, and I knew there was going to be, ‘We’ll see.’ It was important to me to go around and make amends and at least tell everyone, ‘Sorry about the way I was. I have no excuse, I’m willing to earn back whatever. If you never talk to me again, I’m cool with that too.'”
