Shawn Michaels Disowns Huge Match From His WWE Career
Shawn Michaels has put on great matches that cemented his iconic status in WWE.
He rightfully earned the tag of “Mr. WrestleMania.” Be it his ladder match against Razor Ramon at WrestleMania X or Chris Jericho at WrestleMania at XIX or The Undertaker at WrestleMania 25, they went down as classics.
The 60-year-old also considers his Streak vs. Career match against Taker at WrestleMania 26 as his last despite wrestling in another match 8 years later.
The 2018 Crown Jewel was WWE’s second event in Saudi Arabia under its 10-year partnership in support of Saudi Vision 2030 program.
At the event, the D-Generation X duo of Shawn Michaels and Triple H reunited to face The Brothers of Destruction (The Undertaker & Kane).
While the Stamford promotion delivered on fan service by bringing the four legendary performers in the ring together, the match itself was critically panned owing to their ring rust.
Shawn Michaels Disowns Crown Jewel Match
Speaking on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight, the two-time WWE Hall of Famer was asked why he considers his WrestleMania 26 match as his last despite wrestling at Crown Jewel years later.
Shawn Michaels explained that in that match he was just “a dude” hanging out with his buddies, whereas in previous matches he was the “Heartbreak Kid.”
It’s that one with Undertaker [at WrestleMania 26]. Because the other one, it was a tag match, it was DX, and I feel kind of bad, because I don’t mean it in a negative way, but that was just sort of like, I don’t know. HBK and Mr. WrestleMania, The Showstopper, whatever, that ended with Taker at WrestleMania, because I still came back and refereed the match between Hunter and Taker and again, and will always play a role in the WWE.
I don’t consider those a match. A single performance by me, by HBK, by that guy. That’s not who that was. That was a dude hanging out with his buddies and having a match. [H/T Fightful]
