Shane McMahon Breaks Silence On Top Secret Tony Khan Meeting

Shane McMahon

Shane McMahon has given his side of the story following his secret meeting with AEW boss Tony Khan.

AEW announcer Jim Ross set tongues wagging when he innocently commented that Shane McMahon in AEW was “so crazy it might work” on an episode of his podcast. It then emerged that McMahon had discussed a possible AEW appearance with friends in the company in what would surely be Tony Khan’s biggest coup yet.

However, as ever in the wrestling business, it seems there is no smoke without fire.

WrestleTalk and Fightful Select have reported that Shane McMahon held a private meeting with Tony Khan on July 29th at a private Arlington airport. It was reported that Khan and McMahon’s meeting was to discuss “possibilities moving forward.” It was also confirmed that Shane McMahon is no longer under any kind of WWE contract meaning that he could appear on AEW television at any time if he so chose to.

Shane McMahon Congratulates Tony Khan On 5 Years Of AEW

Now in a statement from McMahon issued to WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray on Busted Open After Dark, he noted that among the things discussed were the “rewards and challenges” of working with family:

Tony and I were connected through a mutual friend and we had a great meeting. We talked about many things, but mostly about our shared love for the business and the rewards and challenges of working with family. I congratulated him on the five-year anniversary of AEW and look forward to see how he evolves the business moving forward.

It is not known who connected McMahon and Khan but Shane McMahon recently discussed AEW in a chance meeting with one of the company’s top champions.
