A former WWE superstar has announced a tournament to honor the legacy of his late friend Shad Gaspard.

In May 2020, former WWE superstar Shad Gaspard died while swimming in the ocean with his son. Something happened when they were out there and Shad saved his son’s life while help arrived. However, the help wasn’t able to save Shad and the popular wrestler lost his life that day. Shad was 39 years old when he died.

At the 2022 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, Gaspard’s heroic effort was honored by the company that he worked for. Shad’s wife and son were on hand to accept the Warrior Award in honor of Shad.

As they say, somebody may be gone, but they are never truly forgotten. It was announced by former WWE superstar “Da Pope” Elijah Burke on Instagram on Saturday (Shad’s birthday) that there will be a tournament to honor the late WWE superstar.

In the video, Pope spoke about Shad giving “the ultimate gift” as a father to his son by saving his son’s life. Poke spoke about Shad’s memory and impact on wrestling while adding that those who knew him best would live on forever.

With the blessing of Shad’s wife Siliana Gaspard, Pope announced that the first Shad Gaspard Memorial Cup Tournament will take place on April 20. The tournament will be hosted by the Love Alive Charity that Pope founded. Pope explained that the tournament would allow everybody involved to “let out our inner beast” for a good cause. Shad was known as “Beast” to his friends in wrestling.
