Seth Rollins Match Announced For WWE Payback
Seth Rollins will have another big match as he defends his World Heavyweight Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura.
On the August 7th edition of Monday Night RAW, Nakamura turned heel when he attacked Rollins after a main-event six-man tag match. The following week, he justified his actions by explaining that he did so to send a message to the World Heavyweight Champion.
On the August 21st edition of RAW, Nakamura gave more context to his actions. In a sit-down interview done in Japanese with on-screen translations, Nakamura explained that he knew Rollins had a back injury and wanted to exploit that to win championship gold.
Shortly thereafter, WWE made the match official for Payback and confirmed that the match between Rollins and Nakamura will be for Rollins’ championship.
Seth Rollins responds to Shinsuke Nakamura’s justification for attacking him
After Nakamura got his time to speak, so too did Rollins. The champion confirmed that there was truth to Nakamura’s words and that he has two fractures in his lumbar spine. However, he dismissed the pain as being “part of the gig” of being a professional wrestler.
Rollins then got fired up because he was disgusted that Nakamura dared bring Rollins’ family into their rivalry. He also vowed to be in the ring on next week’s episode of RAW and wants to confront Nakamura face-to-face.
As of this writing, Seth Rollins has successfully defended the World Heavyweight Championship four times. Meanwhile, Shinsuke Nakamura hasn’t had a televised singles title shot since the August 12, 2022 edition of SmackDown when he failed to beat GUNTHER for the WWE Intercontinental title.
